CASE STUDY – CCTV Surveillance with Remote Monitoring – Pharmacy Alliance Group
The Initial Problem/Need
The Pharmacy Alliance Group (PAG) owns and operates three separate pharmacies in regional centres on South Australia’s York Peninsula. PAG Management were wanting to impliment CCTV surveillance to each of the three stores for the following main reasons;
- Prevent shrinkage
- Remote monitoring for video verification and insurance puposes
- Staff management
Because PAG had a headoffice in Melbourne and a satellite office in Perth, the management concluded that remote monitoring of the sites was mandatory. PAG contracted A-COM Solutions to deliver, install and commission CCTV equipment which would fulfill their objectives. A-COM Solutions was chosen due to their experience working in regional parts of the state, and due to the fact they were able to site survey two of the three sites at no charge. Furthermore they had the experience and knowledge when it came to integrating the CCTV system with the IT systems which included modems and routers. This was particularly important as this infrastructure was what provided remote access to the Digital Video Recorder (DVR).

The Solution
The CCTV system consisted of four cameras into each store covering the main areas of interest, a network capable DVR, and a LED monitor for local viewing. In each case, the DVR’s were connected to the internet infrastructure of the premsies, which consisted of ADSL2 modems and switches. The modems were configured to provide remote access for each site’s DVR.

How The Solution Was Implimented
The project involved two technicians working from a temporary central location as their home base, travelling between sites to conduct the installations. The installation took approximately a full day in each store. Installation commenced early morning (prior to opening) to minimise disruption to the normal operation of the store. Whilst cabling work had to take place, the technicians were very accomodating and work around staff’s needs as much as possible. Drop sheets and safety cones were also used to ensure no customers or staff were put at risk during the installation.
