CASE STUDY – Intruder Alarm & Access Control – Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club

the initial problem/need

The Gawler & Barrossa Jockey Club commenced development of their Evanston site in 2010. The development included a brand new function centre, stewards building, gatehouse, sheds, & car parking and re-building of some existing covered areas. The site is expansive and needed a robust intruder alarm and access control system to protect it. The system involved reed switches, passive infra red detection, smoke detectors, heat detectors, card readers, electric doors, and electric gates.

Some of the security concerns  held by management included security of alcohol stocks and betting monies from in-house TAB services. A high end security management system was needed to protect the entire site. The system incorporated the protection of some existing buildings as well as the newly developed building.

As far as fire protection was concerned, the buildings needed an electronic fire detection and warning system in the absence of a Fire Inspection Panel (FIP). This role plus its associated access control requirements, needed to be covered by the proposed system.

Construction2the challenges

  • Install a uniform system across new and existing sites
  • Cover multiple buildings across a single campus
  • Upgrade or replace non-compliant equipment
  • Monitor/control access to the building
  • Integrate electric gate system at property entrance
  • Provide 24/7 site monitoring
  • System that can be easily operated and maintained internally
  • Limited space in electrical services room

SCP

the solution

The system chosen to provide all the necessary requirements was the Protégé System Management Suite. Protégé is a commercial-grade security management system that can incorporate intruder, access control and fire detection and easily integrates with other building services such as air conditioning control and emergency shutoff valves. The system was able to be partitioned to provide coverage of all the buildings across the entire site. A-COM Solutions also provided off-site monitoring for the property providing a higher level of security.

how the solution was implemented

The installation process spanned several months of the construction and different stages of the building process. From first fixing cabling, to installing devices and hardware, to programming and commissioning. A-COM Solutions technicians were able to provide real solutions to the clients, builders, & consultants during various stages of the project, and as new requirements were thought of.
