CASE STUDY – Access Control – Farley Riggs
the initial problem/need
Farley Riggs management team were looking for a new building for their administerative operations and corporate head office due to organic growth. At the same time, they also wanted to improve their corporate image and decided on a building in Adelaide’s CBD. Management wanted to provide maximum security for their staff whilst also providing an easy to use access control system for access and egress into and out of their new building. They also wanted a system that could be self managed without any 3rd party involvement for tracking staff movements, issuing of cards etc. Farley Riggs sought the advice of A-COM Solutions for a suitable access control system.
the challenges
The existing door hardware on each of the tenancy doors were old and although on the same level of a multistory building, were not keyed alike due to being used by separate tenants previously. The main entry door was a dual leaf glass door and was not compatible with standard electric locks or electric strikes.

the solution
The solution proposed and installed by A-COM Solutions was a Protege Access Control System with Protege System Managment Suite software.
The solution consisted of the following broad components;
- Protege System with software
- LCD keypad
- Wiegand card readers
- Electric strikes (680kg)
- Double Door Electromagnetic ‘Mag’ Lock (550kg)
- Remote Door Release button
- Door closer furniture
- Access cards

how the solution was implemented
A-COM Solutions technicians gained access to the tenancy prior to occupancy and fitted out the necessary cabling and equipment. This included cutting out the necessary door frames suitable for installation of electric strikes and mag locks. The main system hardware was located centrally in the communications/server room for easy connection to other IT infrastructure. This ensured remote access to the Protege system was simple. The system was programmed and commissioned ensuring all necessary fire regulations were adhered to regarding emergency egress.
Cutouts for previous door furniture were rectified by A-COM Solutions.
